About Me

I am from New York City and have a bachelor's degree in Art History and American Studies. I am fascinated by birth: as a biological process, an intimate, familial transformation, and as a cultural event. I care deeply about reproductive justice and autonomy, and I became a doula to support people in making the choices they want about their bodies and lives, and to play a role in reframing how we as a society think about birth and about women’s bodies. I attend births and do postpartum support in NYC and Long Island, and I am trained and certified by Carriage House Birth.

Birth Stories

In the Spring of 2018 I published a book of Birth Stories, sourced from interviews with eight women from across the Capital Region, You can view that book and purchase copies (PDF and hard copies) here: http://www.blurb.com/b/8679722-birth-stories. All profits are donated to several organizations that support the elimination of racial disparities in maternal healthcare.

Birthing Bodies Exhibition

I curated an exhibition on visual representations of the pregnant, birthing, and postpartum body, as part of my desire to make birth more visible in a culture that seeks to keep it hidden. If you're interested, you can view that here: https://tang.skidmore.edu/exhibitions/239-birthing-bodies

Birth Film: These Are My Hours

I also work with These Are My Hours, a birth documentary filmed entirely through the perspective of the birthing mother. The film is at once a moving tribute to the strength of birthing people, the wonder of birth, and an educational, visual reference for what natural physiological childbirth looks like. You can view the film through the website: https://thesearemyhours.com/
