Birth Doula

My doula support is rooted in my fundamental belief that people know what is best for themselves and their families — my ultimate goal is always to empower my clients in making decisions for their pregnancies, births, and postpartum periods that come from a foundation of informed and intuitive knowledge of themselves.

I am experienced with the full spectrum of birth support, from low-risk planned home births to high-risk planned cesareans. While I support all “types” of births, I love to work with clients who are as committed as I am to evidence based care, informed consent, bodily autonomy, and care providers that value their experience of giving birth as much as their outcome. I am trained in Spinning Babies and Comforting Touch, as well as trained and certified by Carriage House Birth.

As a birth doula, I:

  • Support you to make informed choices about your care through pregnancy and birth, including with your care provider (s) during labor.

  • Coordinate and manage everyone who will be with you during your labor, including your partner (if applicable), other children, or family members. If your partner wants to be your main support person in your labor, I can show them different support techniques, and support them to support you!

  • Soothe you and help you manage discomfort with touch through the use of massage, bodywork, or a rebozo.

  • Help you create the environment that you want to give birth in.

  • Provide continuous compassion, reassurance, and encouragement.

  • Help you work through fears, doubts, and anxieties.

  • Suggest techniques and methods during labor like breathing, relaxation techniques, movement, and positioning. I am trained in the Spinning Babies technique of positioning.

  • Provide immediate postpartum support, assistance with infant feeding and care, and general support as you transition into life with your baby (or babies!).

Kind Words…

“What a journey. Thank you so much for the difference you have made in it as you witness us beginning the new chapter of parenthood! If it weren't for you being there with us throughout the pregnancy filled with numerous questions and anxieties, we honestly would be a bit lost in the whole process. Your knowledge and expertise greatly helped pave the way into an amazing hospital birth, especially as you were alongside John and my mother, giving them reinforcement as much as I obtained confidence and strength. You being there every step of the way since pregnancy allowed the experience of leaps and changes much more manageable, and enjoyable! Thank you so much Laila, for being an amazing doula. You truly have that 5th doula sense!”

“Laila Morgan is a amazing doula. She was patient, kind and has an angel like presence. She spent over 9 hours with my family and I, I was suppose to have a C-section at 8 am and the doctor didn't operate until 10:30 pm. She made sure that my husband and my older son didn't want for nothing. Even after the C- section she came to my home and made sure the baby and I were in good health. I wish every women could have a doula. She is now a part of our family. Working with a doula like Laila was amazing.”

“Laila was an integral factor in the successful birth of our daughter, our 2nd child. We knew she was going to be amazing from the moment we met her: she exuded confidence, spoke from experience, and answered all of our questions. Laila was in touch throughout the end of the pregnancy.  At the hospital, Laila kept labor moving along. She provided emotional support, kept me moving and hydrated, and provided time to rest and alleviate discomfort. She was on top of everything. Not all of the pain management options we expected were available to us, but  Laila didn’t flinch, and continued to coach through the most difficult parts of labor. In the end, I delivered naturally, with minimal interventions, and our daughter is as healthy as could be. At her postpartum visit, Laila didn’t just check in- she made sure I was comfortable, and did anything she noticed needed attention around the apartment. Since those early days, Laila has kept in touch, and connected us to further professionals as needed for breastfeeding. We’re so grateful to have her ongoing support.”
